Dr Hotz! Says...

The First Carolina reaper Sauce we ever tried!

I tried this for the first time at the New York City Hot Sauce Expo at the end of March and was as impressed as I hoped I would be. Smokin’ Ed Curry grows the hottest chilli peppers in the world and Steve Seabury at High River Sauces has a talent for blending some seriously tasty hot sauces. Put them together and you’ve got a winner! Steve’s “secret spices”, ginger, reaper pepper, roasted red peppers, and soy sauce, along with the more simple harmony of roasted tomato, onion and garlic come together nicely thanks to the backdrop of rice wine vinegar, brown sugar, and white pepper. It would be easy to make this just unbearably hot but with typical High River style, it’s tasty too!

Let me start by saying Wow… I mean seriously… I’m almost tempted to give it a duff review and say it’s terrible so I can have a chance at safely hording all that exists in to old age. This sauce is something special. A hint of sweetness with a roasted pepper hit followed by an overwhelming scorpion swell of blissfully tart body, finished with a "I know its there" heat. It’s not crazy hot, but you feel it without a hint of discomfort. The flavour and feel of this sauce is simply outstanding. The first thing I did after tasting it was look at the ingredients and the crafty buggers use "roasted peppers" and "mixed spices". I wouldn’t tell anyone what was in it either if I had made it. I promise you will buy more after tasting it. 10/10

Very similar to the Hellfire First Blood. thick and tomato base leaves bundles of flavour.. Easy – ish to poor as its quite thick and lumpy. But fantastic sweet flavour.. HOT!

This sauce is awesome. Use it as a dipping sauce, on spaghetti, grilled cheese sandwiches, asian food or you can just eat it straight from a spoon: it’s that good. Flavours of sweet peppers (Carolina Reaper) sugar, anise. ginger and tomatoes. Very sweet at the beginning, till the reapers hit you smack in the face. To me it is a pleasant heat and not too mindblowingly "melt your face off", but it is hot.

    Flavour: 9
    Heat: 7/7.5

Very delicious. I sit here with my mouth going through volcanic stage, endorphins haven’t kicked in yet but well pleased with this. You have to climatise to a sauce like this to truly appreciate it because it’s HOT but it is, as I said, deliciously sweet with a quick but sharp burn. .
